Winter 09/10 is in full swing in Samoens!

We have entered the peak of snow season in Samoens… and it has not disappointed so far!

Typically lots of powder days at the summit and down the Grand Massif runs, clear blue skies with sun reflecting off the snow and breathtaking panoramic views that no winter wonderland postcard could ever emulate…

The whole experience has been made complete by the vibe in the rustic village; the hustle and bustle of locals and holidaymakers strolling around the village square, gathered around a 'vin chaud maison' cart catching up with the day's events or skating in Le Patinoire till dusk; the bars, restaurants, patisseries and pizzerias lit up and in full flow, and the little trinkets, crafts and clothes shops which are like festive grottos inviting all to peruse them.

So what’s new this season?...

Samoens had the grand opening of the Chariande Express chairlift in December 2009. This is a direct non-stop link from the 1600m Saix plateau up to 2120m Tete des Saix... in just 9 minutes!

This ski region is now rightfully considered the mecca for Speed riding, following its 2009 Slalom and Freeride Championship, which took place right here in Samoens. Among the best Speed riders to be seen again this season will be Franck Coupa and Francois Bon.

This adds another notch to Samoens’ (snow)belt for being a popular European winter destination.
